The Impact of an Impact Report

by | Feb 20, 2024 | Uncategorised

We have just celebrated our 4th anniversary at Jump in Puddles Consultancy and it felt the right time to create our first impact report. So why did we create an Impact Report and what did we learn?

Why?
1. As social impact is at the heart of what we do, it felt important that we role model this ourselves and that we support other organisations that share this ethos and practice.

2. Last year we started the process of accrediting to be a B Corp and this highlighted areas of strength but also areas of weakness.

3. One of our values is Integrity and we want to do the right thing. Not everything we do works but reporting makes us more aware of areas of improvement and holds us to account.

4. It was a learning experience to set up KPIs and monitor how that changed behaviours e.g. setting a target for CO2emissions and vegan / vegetarian meals.

So how did we go about measuring impact?

Last year, we created a Company Handbook that specified the 5 pillars of work that support our Mission as well as the policies and guidelines to the way we work. The 5 pillars are:

  • We help purpose led organisations create breakthroughs
  • We support change makers
  • Change the system
  • Be the Role Model
  • Learn and Develop.

We created 21 KPIs that underpinned the pillars as well as measuring our environmental impact. This enabled us to create a way of measuring each areas and set targets. In addition, all our clients were asked for feedback on the impact working with Jump in Puddles had had on them as an individual or their organisation.

What did we learn?

  1. Income is only one way to measure the success of your business. However, it was rewarding to know that 2% of revenue was being donated / invested into programmes that support social mobility and equality.
  2. It takes conscious effort to buy services that are owned or led by an under-represented group.
  3. Despite using public transport and 90% electric cars, we exceed the target set for number of tonnes of CO2 We offset this by a Gold Standard Community Based Verified Carbon Reduction Projects.
  4. And that most important lesson is that we are making a positive impact to our clients.
